FROM STARS IN THEIR EYES…
TO STAR ON THE RISE! THE BIRTH OF STAYIN ALIVE!
From the time of STAYIN’ ALIVE UK’s conception 30 years ago, following a suggestion to form a tribute to The Bee Gees from TV show host Matthew Kelly, and the subsequent endorsement of the idea from ‘STARS IN THEIR EYES’ TV producer Jane Mcnaught, Jimmy Stanley’s highly successful performance as BEE GEES ROBIN GIBB, on the most popular Saturday night entertainment programme ‘STARS IN THEIR EYES’, was watched by over 17 million viewers that balmy May evening in 1994.
Jimmy had been selected from an initial 80k hopeful applicants by a panel of TV executives after passing two very nail-biting auditions in August & September ‘93.
The number of people auditioned was then whittled down to 85, and after the last audition, down to the show’s eventual 45 favourite performers. Each of which were evenly distributed to 5 performances over the TV shows 9 episodes. All entrants were given a brief cameo film and an interview from Matthew before appearing, totally transformed into their chosen star, through the legendary misty doors.
After the performance, Jimmy wasted no time in making Matthew Kelly’s idea a reality. He set about auditioning various singers wfrom adverts in local newspapers and friends recommendations.
It was soon obvious this was not going to be an easy task. Those that responded to either Jimmy’s performance of the 1967 NO.1 Smash hit ‘Massachusetts’, or from local advertising, didn’t act, sound or look immediately like superstars BARRY GIBB or brother MAURICE GIBB. So it was then down to Jimmy’s innate vocal & mannerism coaching abilities picked up from his natural impersonating skills and former drama student training, that served it’s purpose well in eventually making a successful performer and singer out of a good to fairly promising candidate.
…TO GLOBAL ACCLIAM & FASCINATING CAREER!
After his very successful and well-received performance on the hit TV show, Jimmy managed to arrange to meet his idols the Bee Gees at the annual Light Switch-On ceremony in Blackpool. It was a moment he would remember for the rest of his life. Meeting and greeting the Superstars The Bee Gees themselves. And of course, managing to briefly chat and acquire the approval of his very humble, quiet-mannered idol Robin Gibb who Jimmy had impersonated on ‘Stars In Their Eyes’.
This only served to solidify his quest to make a lasting tribute to the approachable, down-to-earth superstars. Jimmy already had a vision of how he wanted the project to go. After careful research scanning the likes of ‘The Stage’ newspaper and similar local & nationwide entertainment magazines, he found there was a definite niche in the entertainment market for a Sound/lookalike tribute to The Brothers Gibb. It was soon obvious there were very few Bee Gees tributes. And certainly no other Bee Gees tributes anywhere else in the world who were attempting the challenge to act, look and sound exactly like the trademark unique vocal harmony sound of the Manx-born trio.
Jimmy was determined in his plight that his Bee Gees tribute would be based on the concept and precise mimicry of the world’s number one tribute band ‘The Bootleg Beatles’ who he had always admired for their accurate portrayal of the Fab Four.
So after many auditions and subsequent rehearsals later, the tribute band ‘STAYIN’ ALIVE UK’ was born.
As the former member and leader of the band, it wasn’t long before Jimmy began to acquire a positive demand for the alternative to Saturday Night Fever’s multi-million-selling trio.
Over the years, thanks to Jimmy’s unique ability to hear and pick out harmonies, complex instrumentation in meticulous productions and his ability to coach other members’ vocals to the required top standard, mimicking the close harmonies, high falsetto style of Barry Gibb and unique, quirky vocal style of Robin Gibb, the newly formed STAYIN’ ALIVE WORLD are now available and ready to once again take the entertainment world by storm.
STAYIN’ ALIVE WORLD are now accepting bookings from Theatres, hotels, cruises, festivals and corporate companies worldwide.
